A season doesn't endin one evening.
From September to June everyone takes photos — a different parent every Sunday — and they stay on the phone that took them. By the end of the year there's nothing to look at together.
The problem is the calendar, not the people
A party has a day, and the day after someone collects the photos. A season doesn't: it starts in September with the first training session and ends in June with the recital or the last match, and in between there are nine months in which the moment when somebody would say «right, let's put the photos together» never arrives.
So every Sunday the images stay on the phone that took them, and in June, when they're actually needed, they're scattered across twenty people who have since changed phone, cleared their storage, or simply forgotten they had them.
A parent in turn, the coach, whoever isn't playing that day: none of them has all the photos.
The photographer changes every time
This is what makes it different from every other case: there isn't even a recurring photographer. A parent who isn't working that day, the coach between substitutions, the kid on the bench with a free phone. Each of them has three good photos, and they're three different photos.
With a shared place nobody has to collect them: whoever took them puts them where everyone else does, whenever it suits. And anyone joining mid-season finds everything from before already there.
You put it in the group in September and it lasts until June, without resending it before every away game.
The parents' group chat is not an archive
In a chat the photos work for an afternoon: you look, you comment, you move on. Then the group goes back to living on schedules, pitch changes and who's bringing the kit, and those images sink three hundred messages down.
On top of that the chat shrinks them, and the difference shows up exactly in June: the same photo is fine on a screen and falls apart printed for the noticeboard. Anyone who has tried to cut the end-of-year video from what was left in the group already knows.
When there are kids on the pitch
The question always comes up here, and rightly: other people's children can't have their photos floating around. A box can have no public page at all — it's seen only by whoever got the address, and it isn't found by searching the club's name or a kid's name.
What parents upload can also pass through whoever runs it before appearing, and a single photo can be removed on request without dismantling the rest. Collecting the consent forms stays your obligation — you do that already — but at least the material doesn't live somewhere public.
In June you need all of it, at once
The recital to edit, the noticeboard at the clubhouse, the end-of-year booklet, the club's post: all things done in a fortnight that need nine months of photos. You download the whole box and the material is there, at the size it was shot at.
And what's in it doesn't expire with the season. Next year half the kids will have changed, but this year's season carries on existing for the people who were in it.
It matters in June, when those photos go on the noticeboard or into the end-of-year video.
